The Animal Rescue League (ARL) & Western PA Humane Society (WPHS) joined local animal welfare organizations at the Galleria at Mt. Lebanon on Sunday, November 20th for their Shop & Adopt event. The pet rescue event featured some of ARL’s most adorable, adoptable animals hoping to find their fur-ever home in time for the holiday season.
ARL, which dates back to the early twentieth century, is a safe haven for animals of all types. The open-door shelter helps all animals in need, regardless of species and breed. Their work at their shelter focuses on caring for and finding permanent homes for dogs, cats and other companion animals. They take in an amazing amount of animals per year, about 13,000, coming to their rescue no matter what the circumstances dictate. Recently they responded to a case in Brookline where they rescued close to 200 animals from a single residence including: birds, dogs, cats, ferrets, lizards and guinea pigs.
On January 1, 2017 ARL will officially merge with the Western PA Humane Society creating one of the largest open-door shelters in Pennsylvania. The merger will expand current capacity and the potential of both shelters, combining programs and services underneath of one organizational umbrella. The Western PA Humane Society will continue its operation on the North Side and ARL in their new facility located at Hamilton Avenue at Dallas, on the East End.
South Hills shoppers that adopted from the Shop & Adopt event this past weekend can expect their new furry friend to be spayed and neutered, as well as micro-chipped, de-wormed, and treated for fleas. Adopted pets are current on vaccinations and other necessary medical care. Adopters, all age 21 or over, will receive 30 days of free pet health insurance with Shelter Care, all of their new pet’s medical records, a vaccination certificate, and spay or neuter certificate.
“We were so fortunate to have the opportunity to utilize the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon as the venue to host Shop & Adopt, A Pet Rescue Event sponsored by Animal Rescue League & Wildlife,” said Gina Mercorelli, General Manager of the Galleria. “Shop & Adopt provided an opportunity for our shoppers to learn more about Animal Rescue League & Wildlife Shelter and the valuable ways in which they serve our community and give homeless animals a chance at finding a forever homes. We can’t think of a better way to kick off the 2016 Holiday Season!”
