Ninety supporters joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western PA as they celebrated their 38th annual Nellie King Golf Classic at Sewickley Heights Golf Course on June 8th.  The event chaired by Mike Tomczak, included a fun filled day for guests who all came out ‘FORE” the children.  Since 1888, millions of children have walked through the doors of our local Boys & Girls Clubs of Western PA looking for a safe haven from the streets, where they find caring adults who help them navigate through life during their precious childhood years. That is the mission of the Boys & Girls Club– to enable all young people, especially those who need someone most, to reach their full potential as healthy, productive, caring, responsible citizens.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western PA currently serve over 7,000 children and young people between the ages of 5-18 in year-round programs in nine neighborhoods throughout Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.  They currently have eight local traditional Club facilities located in the greater Pittsburgh area that focus on everything from after school programs, to fitness and education, to career and character development.  This 38th year of play was ‘teeing’ up support for another of their integral programs, 2015 summer camp.  Funds raised at the event will provide over 5,000 inner city youth with summer camp opportunities this year.

Highlights of the event included a grilled lunch and a 1:00 pm shotgun start. The evening program began with cocktails and a silent auction with prizes like a foursome at Pikewood National Golf Club, a signed & framed Jim Kelly jersey, a live painting auction item from Painting with a Twist, and a personal airplane ride.  Guests enjoyed a fabulous carving and pasta station for dinner and enjoyed an evening program where they could hear from Boys & Girls Club Alumni & Carnegie Youth of the Year 2011, Dominic Panucci, about the firsthand impact Clubs have on our local youth.

President, Mike Hepler presented the 2015 Boys & Girls Clubs of America Champion for Youth Award to Kops for Kids. “Kops for Kids has provided our agency with tremendous support for many years and we are grateful to have this relationship as we continue to serve more children more often,” said Mike.  “Kops for Kids has always been there when the children need them most. The resources provided by Kops for Kids over the years have been invested in drug and alcohol prevention programs, juvenile justice services, career awareness programs, formal sports programs and summer day camp scholarships.”
